Jenny Gregory is Editor in Chief, with overall responsibility for the Historical
Encyclopedia of Western Australian. She is Head of the School of Humanities at UWA. She has taught Australian and Western
Australian history for many years and is the author of a number of books on Western
Australian history. Her latest is City of Light: a history of Perth since the fifties
(2003). She is president of the National
Trust (WA). She is a fifth generation Australian who has lived in WA since 1965. Her
ancestry is Irish, Scottish and English. |

Jan Gothard is General Editor of the Encyclopedia. She is a senior lecturer in History
at Murdoch University, and is a former director of the Centre for WA History. Her
publications include works on Western Australia's relations with Asia, feminist history,
the White Australia policy, and in the oral history and the disability field. Her most
recent monograph, Blue China: Single female migration to colonial Australia (2000) won the
WA Premier's Award for Non-fiction in 2001. Originally from Tasmania, Jan has lived and
worked around Australia, in Japan, the UK and the USA, and has been in WA since 1986. Her
background is Australian, Italian and British.

Virginia Rowland
Research Associate
Virginia Rowland was the Research Associate for the Encyclopedia responsible for coordinating
the commissioning and writing of entries and liaising with authors. She also wrote several
entries. She has a BA in History (UWA) and librarianship qualifications with a work history in
librarianship, publishing and research. She is a sixth generation Western Australian and a
descendant of the Harper and Drummond families.

Hannah McGlade and Narelle Thorne have both worked as Indigenous Research Associates for the Encyclopedia. They were responsible for coordinating the commissioning and writing
of entries on Western Australia's rich Aboriginal history and
liaising with contributors. Both women wrote also wrote several entries
for the Encyclopedia. Narelle was seconded to this project
as part of Department of Indigenous Affairs' (DIA) support for the Encyclopedia. |
Practicum Students The project has been ably assisted with the help of enthusiastic and
dedicated UWA Practicum Students. A grateful thankyou is extended to past and present
